2010 FX-2 Mods

I'm interested in making some mods to my 2010 FX-2 F-150. I love the truck, but the throttle response seems lacking and I’m only getting around 13.5 mpg in the city and 14.5 on the highway.
I don’t baby the truck, so I’m not surprised about the mileage. I own several hot-rods and I prefer performance over economy.
For this project I would like to start with a cold air intake and then install a larger throttle body.
Once I have installed the throttle body I will probable get a chip and lastly I would like to upgrade the exhaust.
Is there a good forum in this post that evaluated the entire package to help give me some guidance for the project?
I would like to make sure everything works together properly.
I'm a reasonable shade tree mechanic for most of the mods.
Do you have a quick list of mods and manufacturers you would recommend?

A larger throttle body is a total waste unless you are supercharged. The stick unit is more than it can handle. The CAI will not help much unless you have a custom tune. Check out tuning devices, it is the single best performance mod you can do.

I have had a LOT of mods / refreshments lately, and am needing to update my input, but since my original post is stashed way back on page 28, I figured it was time to update and bump this...

As purchased.
2004 F150 XLT Supercab 4x4
60/40 split bench seat up front, non power. (Exactly how I wanted it).
Lever operated 4x4, no pushbutton T-case here!
5.4L 3V V-8

Currently installed, and listed as close as possible in order, front to rear...
Smittybuilt roller fairlead license plate relocator bracket modified to keep from slliding down the rollers.
Engo E9000 9K LB winch with roller fairlead.
Go Rhino winch bumper / brush guard.
2 @ Pro Comp 130 watt 6" stainless steel off road driving lights with covers.
KC off road light wiring harness.
Ford Moter Company 2004 FX-4 / XL H bar style grille insert in XLT PTM surround.
AVS Bugflector hood protector.
Ford Motor Company towing package / heavy duty transmission oil cooler.
AirRAID 400-940 M.I.T. (Modular Intake Tube) cold air intake tube.
K&N drop in performance air filter element.
VMP tuned SCT XCal 2 tuner.
PowerStop K1944-36 One Click Kit drilled / slotted rotors and HD Semi Metallic pads
Rancho Quicklift Loaded 2.5" adjustable shocks / leveling kit.
SuperSprings Coil Sumo Springs coil spring boosters to compensate for winch and mount weight. This mostly works, however I am giving SERIOUS consideration to swapping payload package coils in place to get the full 2.5". Specifically looking to swap Moog 81120 coils into the Quicklift Loadeds to get them pre loaded enough for the winch / mount...
EGR "OEM Look" Fender Flares. These were the replacements the body shop put on after I had some vandalism damage involving the Pacer Performance Flexy Flares.
Trimmed lower valance and rear of front fender corners inside sheet metal.
Pro Comp 1089 17x9 polished ally wheels (x5)
Hercules Trail Digger MT 35x12.50/17 mud tires (x5). Yes that means matching spare wheel and tire! No tiny emergency spare for me!
Dashmat dash protector.
B&M Transmission Pan drain plug kit, female threads welded in, no nylon washer to leak, ever...
AVS VentVisors.
Hunter black tube side steps, soon to be replaced by Go Rhino units. (Rust issue with the Hunters...)
Pro Comm 18' coaxial cable for CB. Radio and antenna mounts being reworked prior to installation.
Rancho RS9000 rear shocks.
Full size spare on matching alloy wheel in stock location.
Curt Class III receiver hitch.
Recon line of fire.
Ford Script logo license plate frame, and hitch plug.
Chrome Jesus fish emblem.

Not presently installed, pending reinstallation, or replacement.
Delta Steel Gullwing Crossover Toolbox. I need to brace the lid with 2x1/2 C channel 1/8" thick to brace the CB antenna mount hole, strip it down, prime and PTM it. Have the steel stock, need more paint to do the whole toolbox. I am also considering spraying it with Rustoleum spray in bed liner in tan...
Realistic TRC-485 40channel AM/SSB CB Radio with Realistic noise cancelling power mic and extension speaker. Need to build a custom made mount / box for the radio and extension speaker.
Procomm assembled 18 foot 100% double shield, clear jacket RG8x with hand soldered Amphenol PL269s. This is installed and just sort of sitting there. Needs the radio and toolbox mount / antenna to be put back in place.
Procomm HD stud mount, center of toolbox.
Hustler C-29 Stainless Steel Pot Belly CB Antenna spring. The ends are plain steel and started rusting after less than a month. Hustler's customer service has been HORRID, avoid these people if at all possible. I am going to strip the chrome off of the ends, prime and paint them so they are protected from the elements. Probably use evaporust on, then PTM, or bed liner spray the ends.
Radio Shack 102" Stainless Steel Whip.
Moog 81120 Heavy Duty front coil springs. The Rancho Quicklift springs were WAY too soft to support my truck, the winch and mount, and my fat butt.\
TowReady OEM replacement 7 pin trailer plug wiring harness. Have this on order from Amazon Prime, should be able to get to the install this weekend...
Signstek 18W LED flood / reverse lights. Need to get some pieces including a good switch, and relay for the install... Going to mount these under the rear bumper.

Previously installed mods that have been upgraded away from.
EBC Greenstuff 6000 brake pads. Low dust, GREAT stopping power. These quickly replaced a set of Wagner Thermo Quiets. Not EVER going with those again... The Wagner TQs were what caused the serious brake dust problem in the first place, and they just didn't stop all that well. The EBCs were great, but were too pricey when I needed to do brakes this last time. Might want to go back with them if I decide I am not that crazy about the Powerstops.

Hunter black powder coated brush guard. Lower tube rusted through, and no provision for a winch, it hit the curb and the scrap metal guys picked it up.

Autospring 2.5" offset leveling kit. This has been sold to another member. I am anxious to see his truck with the level installed!

Pilot 100 watt Chrome off road lights with KC Daylighter covers. They produced decent light, but the plain chromed steel housings don't hold up well. I could probably put the Baja Lenses in the Pro Comp housings with the busted lens. That might be one way of saving the old light...

Pacer Performance Cut to fit rubber "Flexy Flares" fender flares. These were replaced by the body shop during some repair work that involved one fender and its flare.

Wanted / Upcoming mods.
Some of this is pipe dream territory, but most is actually pending projects I am working on, or trying to secure funding for.

ARB Air lockers front and rear along with compressor / plumbing with reservoir and milton connector for impact and inflator if needed.
4.56:1 gears to go with those air lockers.
Pro Comp 6" 130watt Stainless Steel off road lights. (2 more, and the harness upgrade to handle it). Of course if I can fix the busted lens ones I have now...
Game hanger. (T-post gambrel with hand winch type thing). Have the material to build it, need to get access to welding equipment, or someone willing to weld it up for me.
Complete engine / transmission rebuild / upgrade. Engine / fuel system rebuild to include upgrade to flex fuel. I want both built bulletproof for reliability and to be able to handle...
Edelbrock E-Force Supercharger / tuner. If and when I actually do this upgrade, the AirRAID MIT and XCal2 come up for sale..
Short tube Stainless Steel headers, and header bolt conversion. High flow cats, and custom cat back X pipe duals with reasonably quiet Magnaflows. I am looking for strong performance, not tons of noise.
True full Leather seat conversion.
Realtree Xtra dash kit. I saw a guy that did his black interior plastics with the Realtree Xtra sheet sticker stuff. I might do that.
Wish I had caught the make / model, but AM/FM/Sirius/CD/DVD/mp3/wma /ogg/wav) head unit I believe it had nav and Bluetooth built in .WAY not cheap.... Sony amp & Xplod speakers. Keep all the audio in the doors. I need my under seat space!
Custom reinforced and modded rear bumper, integrate LED flood lights in the rear bumper wired to reverse light circuit, Hi Lift jack mount, CB Antenna mount.
High Output alternator to run the truck, lights, winch, radio etc...
Bedrug. I want the full one including the tailgate cover part.
Bestop "camper shell" color matched as close as possible to Arizona Beige. The idea with the folding camper shell and bedrug is to keep function of the truck bed as a truck bed for hauling big stuff, but also being able to close it off, haul butt to the beach and toss a couple of Therm a Rests in the back and camp out for a weekend when we want to..
There is some potential for going with a 4" Rough Country lift. Rancho stopped selling them for the '04-'08, and having a 5' 0" wife, a 6" lift was tried (she tried getting in a truck with one at the dealer) and rejected. A 4" was tried and approved, with the stipulation that the step bars stay on the truck... However if I can get the nose back up with the Quicklift / Moog spring combo, and it is level with no rub thanks to my trimming, I will call myself happy and forget about a lift. I don't need to increase the center of gravity for no real gain. I don't rock crawl with a full size extended cab truck after all...

While not a mod, I need to mention all the black plastics are being refreshed with Showroom New... Good stuff...
Another not a mod, but sort of. I am planning on repainting the back wall of the cab where the toolbox had been rubbing, and adding an isolator of sorts to keep the toolbox out of the cab.

dbhost, you're going to like the Engo winch! I have the 12000lb model. I've had to yank not only myself but other trucks out of distant, stuck situations and no problems at all. Winching on a budget.

I have a couple of friends running the E9000 on full size trucks, including one Super Duty. The capacity is well in the range for the F150 so I figure I am good. I installed it today, The brush guard / wing parts aren't right on the brush guard mount (Sorry, I opted to NOT go through the hassle you did with the HD bumper. I have my own horror stories about shipping, but it was the freight company that screwed up...)

I hooked up and ran the truck literally two houses down, strapped my Keeper strap around my big pine in the front yard, and dragged my truck (in neutral) down the street no problem with it. I am sure I will be VERY happy in the long run with this winch!
