2000 F150 V6 crew cab 2x4

Hey guys. New to the forum and F150 family. I have an 87 mustang, so trucking is new to me lol.

Question is, I have a 6400 lbs camper to pull around my area, wondering if it would pull it. If not, would would be ideal to make it happen. Keep in mind, im not wanting to win a race, but not wanting to be on fire every time I leave.

Specs as I know:
-2000
-Little bench in the back so Im sure it's not a reg cab.
-V6
- gear ratio im not sure. I just know it doesn't have much punch.
- 2x4
First truck<br/>

Which transmission - automatic or manual? What is the AXLE code on the door jamb sticker?

Probably a moot point - 6400# is over max tow capacity on any configuration with the V-6.

H9 is 3.55 limited slip.

Your max tow rating is 5500#.

900 lbs over.. Which isn't that bad. I guess I'll see what I can invest in to get that extra punch. I got extra 5.0L parts lol... That's too bad.

Thank you very much for the help.
I'll stick around the forum. I'll get good feedback by reading the threads!

lower rear gear will help the most. And make sure you have enough transmission cooling.

I was going to look into for that transmission cooling system. I'll do my best on seeing what I can do. It ain't going to be every weekend and 5 hours away anyways lol

It will do it. It just really won't like it.

I agree with you. I won't either. I'll make her a test run and see how she feels. Ive got air bags. Not saying it'll help, but at least my rear won't be dragging the ground.

Fixed with added emphasis.

If you live in Kansas or Nebraska, you might get away with it, but any hills will likely be a big struggle. My '99 5.4 with 3.73's protested pulling 5,000# out here in Colorado. Towing 4500# back in Ohio was okay, but even then I had an F250 transmission cooler and was glad I did.

Andy

P.S. If you're going to try this, get a brake controller! I'd recommend a Prodigy P2.
P.P.S. - I'm assuming your truck already has a Class III hitch and 7-pin trailer connector?
P.P.P.S. - Do you have a weight-distributing hitch setup for the trailer?

You guys are definitely right. I did some googling and found that dorman sells exactly what I pulled out along with the shorter coil. I don't have the ability or confidence to do the time sert repair myself. How much would a mechanic charge for something like that?
