4x4 question

4x4 question
My 4x4 is not working. I have unplugged lines from front axle actuator. I can't remember what color it was but only one line has vaccum whether it's in 2wd or 4wd, vaccum never switches. So I went to soloneiod. Put a voltmeter to the connectors on each one. The plug in that has two in the harness. The left one has power to both wires. The right one has power to only one wire in the harness. Could that be my problem.

You need to know the 4x4 switching is a series of actions.
It begins with the dash switch or the floor shift movement.
This signals a module that runs the transfer case motor.
The case motor runs to it's first position closing a lead through to the firewall solenoid at the same time engages the transfer case with the transmission.
This firewall solenoid operates passing engine vacuum to the front actuator that locks the front axle together.
Jumping to one point in the chain is not helpful because it leads you to guessing and wrong conclusions.
The solenoids always have voltage waiting for a ground to operate.
It will have voltage on both sides until a ground is supplied through the case motor circuit board..
You need to see what happens when you engage the system and how far it goes before it stops.
1. Does the case motor operate?
2. Does the firewall solenoid operate?
3. Does the actuator operate?
Do all actions reverse when the 4x4 is switched off?
Do these observations then come back with the results.
Good luck.

I know when you flip the switch on dash to 4h you here it click inside dash. Not sure how to check case motor. I do know I only have one vaccum working. It's the same vaccum in 2h and 4h. The vacuums do not transfer from one to another. That's why I was thinking the solenoid. I have a brand new actuator but can't seem to figure out how to get it off to replace it. But that's where I am at right now with it.

The left one has power to both wires. The right one has power to only one wire in the harness.
If the solenoids do NOT swap states with the selector switch, then the problem is further "upstream", eg, the GEM module, switch, etc.

Ok just checked the turn switch. You put it in 4h and it clicks 5 times before going in and lighting up on the dash. Got out checked front drive shaft. It don't turn so it's locked. Turn it back to 2h it does not unlock. Shut the truck off and restart the truck in 2h and it kicks back in 2h. Drive shaft is unlocked. But there is nothing in 4L

No I wasn't thinking and not paying attention. Got frustrated with it. But is the switch suppose click that many times before switchin for 2h to 4h. And also why wouldn't it shift back to 2h from 4h. But when you shut off truck and put it in 2h and start it back up it automatically switches back to 2h. That's where I am lost.
