This gets a bit involved and is not a simple relationship so keep an open mind.
First, a running engine that dies on the road is not caused by the PATS system.
Why, after starting, the PATS has no more control of the start process as it's normal Theft protection ends at that point.
.
Second, if the Theft lamp flashes, at restart, it tells us the PATS can't communicate with the PCM for some reason and detects it.
So this looks like two separate troubles and is blamed on Pats.
.
Turn the key to 'run' and wait a couple minutes to see if the Theft lamp flashes a two digit code that tells us it can't signal the PCM over common buss leads. Post the code for a check.
.
It's possible a PCM relay or a fuse powering the PCM has a problem.
The PATS knows this and 'complains' about it.
Good luck.
