Since i have been gone not much has changed mod wise. pretty sad actually. but what has changed is my truck has crossed the dreaded 200k mile mark! Well heres the story. My grandparents are getting there property clear cut and my cousin in his 2001 2wd f150 went and got stuck trying to see how much they had cut.. need less to say its MUDDY. a lot of ruts from the trucks going in and out also. so me and my baby came to the rescue. I pulled him out with ease and decided to play in the mud beens i hardly even do. fun right .... not exactly i got stuck bad. I thought oh well i got 4wd this aint no biggy my 4wd didnt lock in! it lights up on the dash and says its locked in but the front tires dont grab and turn in 4 hi or 4 low. Any ideas whats wrong? i already checked the actuator on the front axle its working fine. there is no whining sound when i put it in 4wd so from my experiences i wouldnt think something was tore up in the front end like my hubs but i didnt get under and check the actuator on my transfer case.... when i put it in 4wd you can hear it lock in. So im open to opinions.
Also i leave for Marine Corps Bootcamp JUNE 23 so when i get back i plan on having my truck re painted custom. ( its a suprise what colors and scheme )
Im also wanting to go to a stronger axle in the front and the rear re build my motor and transmission beens they both have 200k on them and have been worked hard. Wanting 4.56 gears Going to put a 3 inch body lift 37x 13.50s and new wheels. My ion bullet holes are getting scratches. Idk how but they are. This will all start happening around December cause i will have some change in my pocket once i get out of bootcamp and my mos school and im reserves so i will be home going to college so i wont have to drive much cause im going to be attending college through the gi bill... so any ideas and prices on a front and rear axle. I know what wheels i want and the prices on everything else i just need ideas on the axles. Also i would like to re build my motor and put a Turbo on it if possible. Anyone know of any turbos?? Im rebuilding the engine with top of the line stuff when i do it.. A lot of Lunati parts and alot more i dont feel like typing out.
Its been a while and i apologize for leaving everyone hi and dri with my last couple of post cause i honestly joined the Marine Corps and have been so focused on getting in shape for boot camp i havnt had time for anything computer or truck related. So sorry guys!!
and also in case str8tsix looks at this post.. man your truck has came along! loving the youtube videos of the detroit locker.
thanks alot man!
check to see if any of the vacuum hoses are cut on the actuator. can you see the little arm move when you put it in 4wd? you will have to have someone in the truck do it and probably drive forward to see it move.
as for the axles, there isnt a stronger IFS axle to replace the 8.8 so you would have to put in a solid axle to upgrade it.
and for a proper turbo/engine build, expect to spend over $10K to get it done. unless you can build the motor and fab all the tubing yourself.

Im probably going to keep my ifs. I dont plan on going over 37s so i dont see a need for a straight axle unless i was to break the axle. I am going to re gear though for sure. The actuator on the front axle moves fine i checked it out. But someone else was under the truck when we checked the one on the transfer case and he isnt very mechanically inclined so idk if he knew what to look for. As for the turbo/engine build i can do alot of it myself especially the tubing. I actually prefer doing it myself as long as i have the tools to do it. Theres a mechanic were i live who usually does any work on my truck that i dont do and he has my full trust on pricing and building an engine. He actually wont even charge me if i help him and its on my time and not his. He has a drag truck that he built ground up and its pretty nice so i trust him for sure i just dont know much about turbo companies besides banks and they dont make turbos for our trucks so idk were to start on finding one or even finding the price for one..... i def. prefer a turbo but if all else fails i will just go with a procharger. . . How much did that detroit locker help you and is it on your stock axle or did you swap axles? i know you are re geared but i have never seen if you swapped axles or not. But the traction video of you breaking loose at half throttle is pretty nice!
That's good about the engine. But the thing about those turbo kits is that they are a remote mount. you don't them if you off road. You would want the turbo in the engine bay to keep it up away from mud and water. Also a turbo isn't the best to get for a truck like ours. We need that low end torque a blower provides to get us moving with big tires.
I'm still using the stock axles. The 9.75 is almost identical to a dana60 axle. So it's pretty strong.

Thats true for sure about the low end torque. I think you talked me out of it cause one i cant really find a turbo that isnt a rear mount and two everybody runs blowers on our trucks so if something went wrong i wouldnt have to struggle to find someone who knows... and the 9.75 is strong i had to replace mine only b/c i slid sideways into a guard rail and it barely split the housing it was so miniscule the mechanic couldnt figure out why my alignment wasnt dead on but it was enough to keep my truck out of alignment so i replaced it. How much does a procharger system run usually?
You can run a turbo in the engine bay. It's just alot more work.
Idk how much a new procharger is. But you could pick up a used one for around 2500

Ill figure it out lol. turbos get my attention more but they are more work and they dont get their boost as quick as prochargers so im going to go with a procharger. If i have the money to get a new one i prefer the new. but i have alot on the to buy list. and ill get the majority of everything including the procharger i just might have to wait on the paint job.

I loved my mud grapplers. I wish they made them in the size I want tho. I may go with some super swampers for my next set.

Idk anything about a eaton swap. Absolutely nothing idk what kind of hp or torque it will produce or anything sadly. im gonna use the search bar but any knowledge you know about prices/hp/tq and installation would be greatly appreciated.
and what size tire you wanting???? they have 37s and 38s and 40s i think. and i had a buddy with some super swampers and it seemed like they didnt last long at all. They were also used and 38x12.50s

just checked yours swap thread out! awesome. i still dont know much about it. how much did everything you did run you? it looks pretty straight forward though. i will for sure have to do some studying to know what psi to run and everything so i dont blow my engine. im re building it anyways but i can do the bolt on and run it safe and rebuild my trans then wait till summer to rebuild the rest of the engine. a lot to do and a lot to think about. i would like to do it all at one time which is possible cause i have another f150 to drive i just gotta figure out what i can do myself. obviously sending my trans off to get rebuilt ill more than likely install the eaton myself and have my mechanic to do the engine build when i figure out what im going to do to the internals

I want 38's but they don't make them for 17" wheels.
8psi is what I'm running. That's safe for a stock block. But when you go built you can run over 20psi just not with the eaton. You would want a whipple for that much. The eaton is good for about 15psi then it starts losing it's efficiency.
I bought alot of aftermarket parts for my build but you could do it for around 3grand if you find good deals on parts.
As for the trans. You could use the stock one till it blows. I get a higher stall converter too! I love mine!!!
