Score!!! :)

So I decide since I was up working near one of the yards today, I stopped into check on a tranny and maybe a truck to swap my f150 to a 5 spd and lo an behold, somebody dropped off a cab with the tranny sitting in it along with the transfer case from a 98 4.6 9 days prior!! This is the first time I have EVER seen a manual shift v8 truck here in this northern Ontario town but anyway, he is gonna let me have all what I need for 600 bucks!

but my question is do I need the computer too? I read somewhere that it is needed, but is that only to get rid of the tranny codes from the auto? Being different engines, would that mean there is different values setup in the computer though? Or do they work just the same with a 5.4?? JMC where are you??!?!?!? :P lol

I don't think you need a different PCM you just need to get a custom tune to "tune" the auto tranny out.

Cool, I didn't think the 4.6 computer would really be feasible for the 5.4, so now my other question I have, do I need different driveshafts?? I know the 4x4 manual tranny has the adapter at the end to extend it, so would my current ones work? Or am I looking for new d/s's also??? :/

Well your 5.4 should bolt right up to that manual trans but as for the driveshaft Im unsure. Do you have access to the truck the manual trans came off of so you can measure the driveshaft? That would be my only guess. Or you could try to find out the length of the driveshafts online and see if theyre the same.

the M5OD will not handle the power of the 5.4.

JMC has been through like 5 transmissions with his.

True......it isn't the strongest tranny behind that mill, BUT I won't be putting a blower on my 5.4 lol so hopefully it lasts longer
