Grenaded Rear End

So i was driving the 150 for the first time in a month or two and letting off the gass at 80km/h all i hear is grinding then the rear tires lock up. Turns out the rear end grenaded inside. My question for you guys is will the axle out of my 97 parts truck work?

the black one is 1998 150 4x4 offroad edition 4.6l
the parts truck 1997 150 4x4 offroad edition 4.6l

only difference between the two trucks is the black one is extended cab.

I know a lot of you are going to say check axle code but the truck is at my uncles so i cant check the axle code right now.

Well, i would say that yes, it most likely will work. it seems that the most popular gear ratio in these trucks is 3.55 so my guess would be that they both have 3.55s. the only difference might be that one may be limited slip and the other one may be open.... but since they are both 4x4 off roads they are probably both limited slip. i know my 97 4x4 off road was originally limited slip until my rear end went and i put an open diff back in it to get it on the road, but my dads 2002 fx4 has an open diff. . . . but either way it should probably work. as long as the gears are the same (and they should be) it will bolt in no problem.

but the only way to know for sure, is like you said to check the axel code in the door, or check out the tag on the diff itself.

Ye thats what I was thinking to so i checked the parts truck and its axel code in the door jam is 19 and ive got a call out to my uncle to check the black truck. Off the top of anyones head do you know the website for the gearing by axel code for these trucks or even if you know what the gears are for each axel?

My 2000 F150 5.4 4X4 also has a 3.55 open. But for some reason the code was a 250/350 code. Not the F150 code

If I were you, I'd regear that truck if there is any way you can swing it. 3.55 and 35's with a 4.6

so your uncle just needs the 3.55 gears from the axle? i would buy him new gears and just swap out rear ends. saves you set up cost for new gears and gets him brand new gears. win win IMO.

I cant afford the new gears thats why I am using the spare parts off the parts truck. My unlce is doing most of the work for free as long as i help him. Its like i said earlier if I could afford new gears I would be buying new gears and doing a regear to 4.11s. I dont know what he is going to be doing exactly he just told me that he is going to make 1 axel out of the two to try and keep costs down.
