Where is the 4x4 control module?

Where exactly is the 4x4 control module on a 1997 f150? My truck is stuck in 4 high. It has a new shift motor and it won't shift back to 2wd. There is no CLICK when I switch it.

The GEM controls the drive train, there is no separate controller.

One thread per problem, please. Do not start multiple discussions on the same or closely related questions or issues.

It would be helpfull for you to learn the essential operation of the system instead of just replacing parts first.
1. The dash switch signals the GEM module located behind the dash fuse panel.
2. The Gem operates the transfer case motor to position.
3. The motor circuit board returns signals back to the GEM about it's position through the muti wire harness.
4. The firewall relays are operated gateing engine vacuum to the vacuum actuator on the front axle to engage the front drive.
5. For 4L, the GEM needs to see signals from the brake switch and the neutral selector in neutral position while the vehichle is not moving. In addition it changes the transmission shift points in the PCM.
.
You should be able to manuely return the transfer back to 2W drive and put the motor back on as long as it does not operate again from a fault.
The GEM and it's programming is specific to the build of the truck because it controls other features that were part of the original factory build.
Good luck.
