I think your going to have a floater on your hands if you do that. Ive carried ladders like that... Not fun. I think as far as the roof racks go you might be onto something. I would still fab something that attaches to the rear hitch neck that stands up, has 2 supports going to each bed rail to keep the sway out. That sounds easy to fab and cheap, strong too. If you make the connection at the roof racks stronger, you wont need a tie down going to the front. Be creative, use good materials and come up with an easy affordable nice looking product that is easy to take apart and reassemble. Something like the one bigun showed you with the tacoma. But attach it to the neck of the receiver vs being the receiver itself. That way you can still tow. But then it may need supports going to the bed rails.
And where can you get roof racks for a supercab. I've been curious about a roof rack or cargo rack for my truck.
