That heater hose under the intake plenum
I just replaced the 4.6 Romeo motor in my '98 F150. One part that I had a hard time finding was the heater hose which runs from the rear of the water pump to the top, rear of the passenger-side head.
I found that on my original (98) romeo 4.6, the hose was completely metal and attached to the 'nipple' (short tube) coming out of the rear of the water-pump. This was sealed with two o-rings.
My replacement motor, '97 4.6 romeo, has a different style 'nipple' and hose. This hose has more bends and connects with a short section of flex hose and a clamp. This style is apparently less common.
If you have the style with the flex hose and clamp, you can purchase a replacement. Ford part number F65Z18472FC. This part retails for $79.
If you would like to change to the solid metal line, you can buy the o-ring style 'nipple'. Ford part number F75Z8555AA. Retail $10. Don't forget the o-rings, part # W704593S100. Retail $12.80 EACH!!! You'll need 2.
If you need to replace the solid metal line, you'll need part number F65Z18663FB. Retail is $20.
Most likely, if you're working on this, you'll also need the EGR line from the exhaust to the EGR valve. This is part number F65Z9D477B. Retail is $73.

Of all these parts, the EGR line is the only one I know of which can be purchased somewhere other than the dealership. The o-rings can be located elsewhere. I didn't get dimensions, but I would hope they are a standard size. If you have to purchase parts from the dealer, I would recommend being nice and leveraging for a discount. *hint*
Thanks for everyone's help. I'm just trying to give a little back. I in no way intend for this to be an advertisement for dealer's parts department. I wish I could have found a write up like this to save me from staring at drawing with the parts guy and losing days of waiting on parts that weren't right. Good luck on your projects!
