transmission code "B" 2004 ?? Mercon V or no

I have a new 2004 5.4 v8 and went to change the transmission fluid.
To my great surprise, no one knew what to put in Mercon V or not.
The door says transmission code "B". There is no code "B" in the book which came with the truck. My son has a V8 5.4 diesel with two package and his trans. code is "B" also.
Anyone with any experience with the 2004 trans. code.
I need to know if it needs the straight Mercon, if it is a 4R100 or E40D.
Thanks for any help.

A bunch of people will knock this, but pennzoil has a multi-vehicle ATF out now that works on 98% of auto trannys. It will work on all ford fluids, minus type F. You can buy it at your local autozone, and take the guesswork out of tranny fluid changes.

The 4R75E transmission takes Mercon V fluid. The 4R75E is very similar to it's predecessor, the 4r70W, which uses the same fluid.

Thanks.
My dipstick, yes, I have one in my 04-F150, says Mercon V, but the book which came with the truck does NOT list it.
I checked the Ford site, but it only says it is a maintenance free tranny.
Mercon V it is.
I find it odd, that the book they give you says to change the fluid at 30,000 miles and the Ford site and literature says it is maintenance free!!!

I have a 4R75E disassembled on my bench right now, waiting on parts. It uses the same type friction material on the clutch plates and bands as the late model 4R70W. If I owned one I would keep changing the fluid at 30,000 miles, regardless of any
"maintenance free" marketing hype.

Cool, I figured it would be the same fluid as the 4R70w, but wasn't sure b/c I know the new Torqshift requires a different fluid. I'll update my tranny page.
