Dome light stays on in 97 F-150

Problem just started. At first the light would take a little longer to turn off after locking truck. Now it just stays on. I had to disconnect the battery. Anybody have this problem? If so,how did you fix it. TIA. X

Does the door ajar light come on in the dash?If it does you'll have to replace the sensor that's on the locking mechanism inside the door.not to difficult really. If thats the problem let me know and I'll write you a walkthrough.

"Door Ajar" icon doesn't come on. I sprayed the lock mechanism w/WD-40 anyway.
Dome still stays on....sigh. I'm trying to avoid going to the dealer. I'll keep hoping for some more input. Thanks for the input so far. X

From the research Ive gathered, the only other thing that could be keeping the dome light on without the door ajar sensor being on is the GEM.It controls several different functions such as the dome light, window wipers, window washers, door chime, and various other functions.Even though they sell the part Ford will probably neglect to tell you that it needs to be programmed from them for that specific year make and model with all the features you have and dont have.I think the parts roughly 130 from what Ive heard and I dont know how much Ford would charge to replace it and reprogram it.I don't know if its the case or not but the finger does point to it and the main reason being the door ajar isnt on.Good Luck to You

I have this problem too!

Look through the other threads...I saw this reported there and I have this problem on my 97 F150 as well. They say to spray the door latches with WD40..which I will try. I have lived with this problem for a long time (took the interior bulb out)!!!

yes wd-40 will work. spray ALOT down the door latch it will run down and lube the unit and make the light shut off. My 98 Expedition did the same thing and I heard about this trick and it worked like a charm.
good luck

If you decide to work on your door locks the door panels are a snap to get off. They don't pull off but lift off. Take off indoor handles and pop the two trim pieces off on each side of the panel at the window. Pop out the 2 plastic screws and the door panel lifts straight up. Power windows and doorlocks will have to have the harness disconnected which pops right off also.

After spraying the lock mechanism alot, open and close the door fast about 20 times and this will shake the sensor loose again. happens all the time.
