Ford Trucks are better than chevy.

Every truck purchased for the farm has been a Ford. My grandfather has two rangers, and there is another 97 F150 used for pulling trailers. We also have two late 60's early 70's Bronco's sitting out back, that I would love to fix up, but probably never will, seeing how I am not much of a mechanic, and have to look towards the future instead of dumping money like that into a toy. Sorry for rambling, but I am happy to say that I am joining this group, in a week I will be trading in my 02 Dodge Dakota and getting an brand new 05 F150, this will be my first Ford, and I don't expect to ever drive another manufacturer again.
Congrats, you made the right choice.
OK, so tell me why you think a Chevy truck holds up better when Ford obviously is about 5 years ahead of Chevy? When a buddy of mine first bought a truck back in 2001, he purchased a Silverado. Within 3 months, the engine caught fire. Nothing big, but did take a month to fix. One month later, oil started leaking. Fixed that - then the oil pump went out while he was driving down the highway and the engine locked up. I have three friends with Chevys. All of them go to the dealership at least once a week for a "checkup" - I laugh because I haven't even popped the hood of my truck in 3 months. And, on the weekends, we use MY 150 to offroad and haul a trailer with 4 tons of s*** on it (literally). And, I only have the 4.2 V6. We tried to haul it with a Chevy - tires started spinning in the grass and the trailer went nowhere. Total piece of crap.
While I was having my truck fixed at a paint and body shop, I went to Enterprise and happened across the only Chevy truck that I've EVER seen - I usually rent from Enterprise because they use mostly Ford trucks and SUV's in Texas. I was rented a brand new 05 Silverado with 9800 miles on it that drove smoothly but it could not corner for crap, the steering wheel shook VIOLENTLY whenever I went over any pothole or anything that was not smooth pavement, and the "Vortec V8" was a joke - no pickup whatsoever. When I was looking out of the windshield, I felt like I was looking out of a matchbox. The truck was loud when accelerating, and I had to take turns at idle speed almost so that I wouldn't feel like I was losing control of the vehicle. I could tell that those good ol' 1972 drum brakes were on the back because the brakes were VERY sluggish but then VERY tight when the truck got below 10 mph. The 06 is DEFINITELY a step back from the friggin 2002 model!!!!!!!!! In addition, the new, supposedly "wonderful" Allison transmission is having more problems than Chevy can count, and is sweeping all of these problems under the carpet. Ever wonder WHY you don't see a lot of Chevy 2500 and 3500 trucks on the road?
Please tell me why anyone would elect to drive a truck that:
has no closed box frame
has no hydroformed rails
has a 1/8 inch steel REINFORCED frame
has Drum brakes on the rear tires
Has a NASTY and LONG record of BAD transmission problems since at least 1997
has Zero steel reinforcement beyond the cab (i.e. the engine is protected ONLY by fascia)
has A less than 5 star crash test rating (as is common for GM vehicles)
(The Silverado's rating is ridiculous - 4 stars on front driver, 3 stars on front passenger)
Is made by a company that leads the nation in number of recalls per year (and has done so for quite some time)
GM boasts that "only they have OnStar" - THANK GOODNESS "only they have OnStar" because they're the only ones that need it!!!!!!!!!

I work with someone that bought a new Chevy trailblazer about six months ago now they have to take it to the dealership about once a month to get something fixed on it. and i tell them that my FORD hasn't had to go to the shop except for when I had the brakes done and that was at 82,000 miles and my truck now has a little over 94,000. So my view on this is this if you wan work get a FORD if you want time off and spend that time at the dealership drinking free coffee get a chevy.
I am still driving my 89 gmc Sierra I bought new for $ 11,700. - 6 cyl 5 spd stick........... our shop truck.
I have more than gotten my $$ worth on this one - two clutches, four sets of tires, a couple alternators, new sheet metal / grills paint in front x2 .... not my fault.
10 years or so ago it might have been a toss up between GM and Ford.
Now Ford is too far ahead for the others to catch up, in engineering and style.
Some people are just harder on vehicles anyway.

ONELOWF - I totally agree.
I would have seriously thought about a Chevy back anywhere between 1972 and 1980-something, but ever since then they have really been making junk. Every Chevy I've been in since about 1990 has (relatively) good, smooth ride (smoother than their Ford counterparts), but the new ones just don't hold up. I've seen that one with my own eyes.
Every time I get together, there's sure to be at least one of my Chevy friends there - they're always talking about what's broken NOW in their trucks, but they always blow it off by saying something like "They're still good trucks....even though that O2 sensor failed for the fourth time, they're still better than Ford or Dodge."
Too bad they've been brainwashed. My wife came from a LONG line of Chevy owners. Her brothers, mother, and father all drove Chevys. Her brothers now all drive Fords, her mother drives a Toyota (which I will not expand upon) and her father.....well, he still drives a Chevy even though he, like most all newer Chevy models, has weekly - monthly problems.
When we got married we traded in her Chevy for an Explorer. We looked at the Explorer, the Trailblazer, the Buick Rainier, and the Toyota 4Runner. The 4Runner was nice but Japanese, the Buick and Trailblazer were horribly small inside for how BIG they were OUTSIDE (not to mention the road handling was all over the place, crash tests were bad, seats were uncomfortable, etc. etc. - the standard for GM these days). I saved the Explorer for last (knowing that it was going to be the last stop). She started test driving it and said "This is it." I was thinking DUH - but she was SO sure that she wanted a Trailblazer - until she realized how crappy it was.
Two weeks ago we tried to trade in our Explorer for a Five Hundred - she started crying as we were about to make the deal because she said she didn't want to trade it in.
Go Ford. We are a Ford Family for life.

There's all kinds of construction on base, and all you see the contractors drive is Ford F-150's and SD's. I think that alone says something about the Ford trucks, especially since Fords tend to cost a more than GM.
In '97, I bought a new F-150 SCAB and my friends all purchased Z71's on the "Smart Buy". By 2005, there was 1 recall and 1 service notice received from Ford on SCAB truck. By 2001, those Z71's had more than 27 recalls, mostly for brake failures but a few for engine fires and such. Those Z71's all seemed to get a good dose of "trade" in 2001/2002. My reliable little F-150 was sacraficed in trade to buy the '05 FX4 in June. Seems the dealer got $11.5K for my old truck when they sold it on the used lot. I wonder what those '97 Z71's would fetch now?

I just saw a GMC commercial and you can tell that they're getting desperate.
They said that the GMC had many "advantages" over the "Ford F-150" (they even named "the competition").
They mentioned these as the "many advantages":
1. More STANDARD horsepower than Ford
2. Better resale (of course they've been toting this for years when it's obviously because they don't sell)
3. OnStar
How pathetic.
There was NOTHING important that would make the truck seem like it was truly better than Ford....oh yeah...because it isn't.
When you have to attack the competition and call them by name, there's obviously something wrong. Whenever someone's trying to say they're better than someone else, it's usually because they know they're inferior.
GO FORD!!!!!!!
