I'd agree. My dad has a 1996 (I think) Ford F250 diesel X-cab long bed, and he just had to put a new transmission in it - at 200K miles. And he has used the absolute HELL out of that thing. He took it to the dealership, and after seeing how many miles were on it and the condition it was in, the guy told my dad he would be NUTS not to put a new transmission in it.

I'm on my first Ford (2004 F150 4.6L reg cab SWB) but it will most definitely NOT be my last.

 

well noy guys my family owns a logging company and we got one of those dodge hemi things, so far it has held up pretty good , it is a 2004 and already has 26000 miles
i own a ford and will never own anything but , i think that any truck will make a work truck if it has to be

 

All we have are Fords, and thank God because I would be cussing up a storm everytime I had to drive it if it wasn't a Ford.

Farm people here, no where near civilization, Chevy is all we will use. The Fords just dont hold up. Only reason I got this is because it was super cheap-its just for people trasportation-no work whatsoever, I honestly dont think it could handle what we would throw at it.

Something is has been going wrong with my truck over the past few months, progressively getting worse and no one can seem to find out what's wrong. Its been a fairly nice truck for what I bought it for (hauling people) but it will probably be getting traded soon, and definatley for a Chevy.

 

I know we're talking work trucks here, but as far as the Chevy vs. Ford issue-- My best friend, who drives the love of his life -- an 01 Z-71, had to call me up this weekend, demoralized, and have me come and tow him home after he broke down in the middle of nowhere. That's a good feeling

I did used to have a 95 F-250. That thing was great -- towed a lot of horse trailers with it. Broke down once and it was just a corroded battery terminal... I'll take that.

 

My dad works for a veneer log and lumber company in Virginia. We live in East KY. and he travels all over Ky, Tennessee, Virginia, W. Vir., Pennsylvania and sometimes up to Maryland buying timber. He gets a new company truck every 3 years and not exagerating, not B.S.in, but when his boss talks him into a Chevy it's destroyed in a few months. The fords hold up the 3 years with only minor problems. These things get run almost non-stop 65-80 mph on the highway all week long including some serious log woods mud thrown in, sit in the driveway saturday and sunday and back at it again. How many 3 year old trucks have you seen with 200K+ on them and still going???

90 f250 460 C-6 570000, all highway engine has never been rebuilt same as the tranny, water pumps, alts things like that, still runs father pulled his 5th wheel with it, now a plow truck.

 

How can A new f-150 even be considerd a work truck? I got one, It works ok in a swarm of chevy on lookers, hold's it's own with best of them...My point is your spending more on the niceities, bare bone's xl are hard to find...reg cab long box truck's are not were Ford is going in market share...the best work truck is one that is cheap, takes abuse...and seldom brakes....97 to 03 f-150 have a bad front suspension's, They don't hold up in the oil field.....I have been thier and cursed manny a ford....never had a problem years preceading 97.....250-350 Fords, no issues, they hold up well...

IN THE OILFIELD ALL YOU SEE ARE FORDS, WHY NOT TRY USING A F250SD???

 

we use all fords except we got a good deal on a dodge my cousin had so we bought it. the dodge has so many problems motor went because of a bad pcv valve, the front end is sloppy as ****, and it hsa no power compared to the ford v6...no problems with the fords at all...never anything else going in our stable....

 

I won't fight tooth and nail about whether GM is tougher than Ford because from my understanding and research, "built Ford tough" isn't just some catchy slogan. As a life long GM truck driver and a new Ford truck driver I can honestly say I do believe Ford trucks are tougher than GM trucks. However, toughness is one thing and reliability is another. I'd give GM the nod in reliability over Ford any day.

 

My grandfather who was the son of a Georgia farmer, a farmer himself, father to a farmer, and grandfather to a farmer once told me: "son when ever you get out of a chevy you better dust yourself off" Needless to say, my family has been driving Fords since before chevy knew there *** from a hole in the ground.

 

Ford trucks are great. I live on a family farm, peaches and apples, and I'll run down the list of Ford trucks we have. My uncle has a 2002 xlt supercab, my other uncle has a 2000 lariat super cab 4x4, my dad drives a 2004 xl reg. cab, my little brother has a 2002 reg. cab sport, my one cousin drives a 2003 xlt supercab 4x4, and his brother just got a 2003 lightning svt. Every truck purchased for the farm has been a Ford. My grandfather has two rangers, and there is another 97 F150 used for pulling trailers. We also have two late 60's early 70's Bronco's sitting out back, that I would love to fix up, but probably never will, seeing how I am not much of a mechanic, and have to look towards the future instead of dumping money like that into a toy. Sorry for rambling, but I am happy to say that I am joining this group, in a week I will be trading in my 02 Dodge Dakota and getting an brand new 05 F150, this will be my first Ford, and I don't expect to ever drive another manufacturer again.
