Keep replacing coil pack on same cylinder #2, 5.4
97 5.4 with 120,000 miles. I have been having this problems for a while now. I get "bumps" or misfire sporadically then more consistant and then finally the coil pack quits working and the check engine light goes on. I get code P0302, and P0352, both indicating cylinder #2. I have replaced the coil 3 times now and it works for a short period and goes bad.
I have tried to chase down a short in the wires leading to the coil pack with no avail.
The plugs were replaced at 65,000 miles. The coil pack has a new boot everytime I replace it.
I cant believe I keep getting bad coils, so it seems there must be a chaffed wire. Although the new coil works for a little while, it seems if the wires were bad no coil would work.
If anyone can fix this they are officially "THA MAN"

Why didn't you replace the plug/s? It's a lot cheaper than a coil after the first time around.
If the plug has way to wide a gap or the plug is outright defective in some way, this will cause the coil to try and find an eaiser way to ground and distroy itself through it's own insulation new or old.

HI!... Could be a bad coil driver in the PCM. It happened to me where I was constantly dropping all the coils. Installed new PCM and fixed it. Then a month later my alternator decided to give everything 19 volts and now I'm afraid the PCM is screwed again because I'm dropping coils again. I hate electrical gremlims!!!!!!!
