Seeking information on new 3-valve 5.4 engine. Particulary interested in how the PCM interfaces with engine, input/output of the PCM. I would like have a list of all sensors on the engine; O2, MAP, etc...
What is the PCM receiving back from the engine and what the PCM is controlling with reference to the engine.
Is there a website with a schematic?
Any Ford techs out there with some info?
I'm considering buying Ford Factory Service Manual for this info, any suggestions?

Excuse my ignorance, but what is a PCED?

 

Powertrain Control and Emissions Diagnosis manual. There's the normal workshop manual for most body, chassis, electrical and engine components and systems, and then there's the PCED that deals specifically with drivability and electronic engine controls.

 

Are PCED's for sale to the public? This would be for a 2005 5.4L.

 

A mechanic at my local Ford dealership gave me a list of "Typical Diagnostic Reference Values". This list consist of the sensors and inputs to and from the computer. These sensors and inputs are abbreviated on the list. Where can I find the terminology for these abbreviations?

I noticed on the list the mechanic gave me that the sensors/inputs are broke down in 3 catagories; Transmission, Body/Cowl, & Engine. I am assuming that each Pin/PID begins with either "T" for transmission, "B" for body/cowl & "E" for engine. But I noticed something odd in this identification system. For example, there is a Pin called "MAF V" labeled "B41". Doesn't MAF = Mass Air Flow and why is it in the "Body" catagory?

Is CAN/scanner available to the public for 2005's?

 

Someone explained that to me before, but I've forgotten. Here's the best I can remember these PIDs though:

Knock Sensors 1 and 2
Crank Position Sensor
Fuel Rail Pressure sensor and FRP sensor voltage.
Cylinder Head Temperature in degrees, and CHT voltage.
Throttle Position 1 and 2, I think. The ETC uses two different "stops" to determine where the throttle is in relation to where your foot is on the accelerator, a fault will set a correlation error code, where the PCM is basically saying it hasn't got a clue about what the hell the TPS is reading.
Intake Manifold Runner Controls, which don't matter, the 5.4 3V ain't got those.
CDA, I'm not sure about, cam angle I think.
TACM, dunno what that is either.
EVMV, electronic vapor management valve, EVAP stuff.
VCT1, bank 1 cam phaser timing variance in degrees.
HTR11, heater circuit for 1-1 O2 sensor.
