I have a 1995 F150 with the 302 V8.

Can anyone tell me for sure where the temerature sending unit is?

Where I would normally find it I find a two wire device sitting just to the left of the thermostat housing.

It looks like a sending unit, but it has two wires. I am confused. The sending unit I bought at the parts store is the old style single lead type that I am used to.

Of course that does not mean I got the right one from the parts store either.

 

I have the same truck and had to replace the sending unit as well. I cant think of its location off the top of my head...give me a day or so to look again and i'll get back to you.

just a stab...

behind what your talking about (thats part of the system, just the 'two wire' portion is related to the computer) on the engine block. underneath the distributor. black wire that looks like a mini spark plug wire.

 

Yeah I had to mess with my sending unit today to test it...again

turns out i was right with the location...you bought the right part

Before you try to install:

CHECK:

1: With the engine off, disconnect the wire from the temperature sending unit.

2: Switch on the ignition, without starting the engine - the temp guage on the instrument panel should be at the cold mark. Using a jumper wire...ground the sending unit wire. The needle for the temp guage should now be pointing at the hot mark (or past)

caution: dont leave jumper wire connected longer than neccesary

a) if the guage doesn't perform as described, the problem may
be in the guage or wiring

b) if the guage does perform as described, the sending unit is defective...go ahead and replace it.
