Anybody plow snow?

With their F150?

If you do, what plow do you use? Does the truck handle it OK? I've been thinking of mounting a Blizzard 760LT on my truck and doing some residential work. Maybe a few small parking lots.

We wish we had that problem. In this part of
North Carolina we don't get much but we sure
do love it. Send us some snow.

We have a 97 at work. It a salesman's old truck with over 100k miles. we put an old plow on it and it work great. The only problem was we burnt up the alternator it needed a higher amp alt for the hydraulic pump on the plow.

My Brother-in-Law runs a 1997 F-150 4x4 with 103,000+ miles and a 7 1/2 ft plow Western Plow, all winter here in Northern Wisconsin.

He has multiple commercial and residential accounts. His largest commercial account is a Target Store. He added a Spreader on the back to salt there.

It handles it well and he loves the Truck.

Heck I may throw one on my '97 and join him this winter.

Doug

Your truck will handle it, the question is....how much abuse do you want to put your truck thru?

IMO, you are better off picking up a an older F250 or F350 to abuse.

Also if you are interested in picking up some insurance, I can put you in touch with a couple of city/town contacts for plowing. The average is about $50-55 per hour, minimum four hours for storms that go over 2-3 inches.

Although I own an F-150 and I plow, I drive an F-350 with a Powerstroke Diesel to plow - with an 8' Fisher plow. Personally, I wouldn't ever recommend hanging a plow on any 1/2 ton truck for anything other than plowing my own driveway. They're just not built to take the beating - partiularly in commercial use. We plow apartments and shopping centers with a fleet of F-350's and still break all sorts of stuff. Attempting that kind of stuff with a half ton is foolish. You'll be replacing front end parts u-joints and transmissions so often it will scare you. The only Ford half ton that might be able to handle light plowing is the 7700 package.

we use 3/4 ton trucks for plowing with 8' plows, plowing is hard on everything, we use the western, but the new boss plow look great, looks like real easy to hook on. I just think the f-150 my be a little lite duty for plowing. When you have a few accounts to plow time runs out pretty fast and you tend to hurry and beat the truck, so just keep that in mind. just my 2 cents hope it helps
