96 5.0 Hard Shifts
Hi all,
I'm relatively new here, and I was looking for some help with my 1996 F-150 XLT w/ 5.0.
Since I bought it (a little over a year ago), the tranny has shifted hard from 2-3. She has 135k on the engine and tranny (mostly highway, so I'm told) and I figured it was just the nature of the truck, and let it go. Now that I am in the working world (terribly bored) I spend my time traversing the forums here. I have come to find out that the hard shift tends to come from one of two problems:
1. TPS out of adjustment
2. Accumulator spring broken
The tranny fluid has not been flushed, I'm not sure if that could be a problem, I've heard with higher mileage it could be detrimental (ruining the "natural balance" that exists now).
I checked the TPS measurements with my MicroScan tool (its nice when your girlfriends brother is a SnapOn dealer) and found that the TPS readings were in the range of 19.6% to 94.7% (WOT). In other words, 0.98v to 4.735v, which seems to be dead on.
If anyone knows a good solution, or maybe another check I could run to give more info on the problem, please let me know.
