spark plugs

Dear Terry,
I would suggest using the Bosch Platinum +4 spark plugs; they are $2 a plug cheaper than the factory plug, and they're automatically indexed in the cylinder head due to their design. We're using them in all our vehicles, getting better power and gas mileage.

My 4.2L has 23k miles on it. Is it "too early" to install some new Bosch plugs? I would like to have a smoother running engine and a fraction (anything) better mileage.
Thanks.

According to the owners manual you don't HAVE to change them for 100,000 miles.
Then again we don't HAVE to do any other mods to our trucks either.
Consumer reports gave bad review on the 4 prong plugs.
Tells you how much they know about truck performance.

More mods as funds become avalible.

Indyfan- "triple platinum" means that all three electrodes of the Splitfire plug are platinum plated [or tipped]. Older plug styles only have two electrodes so platinum plugs in that style can be either "single" or "double" depending on how many of the electrodes are platinum.
From what I understand, the Bosch +4 seems like a good design. Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but it seems like I remember reading that platinum plugs aren't the best performance plugs. They do, however, last a long time. So, with a platinum center electrode (for longevity) and 4 non-platinum electrodes (for performance), it looks like Bosch may have something good.
There have been reports, however, of poor performance in older (pre '97) engines when using platinum plugs. For those applications, I just use "regular" plugs.

Not much to explain- this is what the shop did:
Cut the left (driver's) side pipe where it comes across the vehicle. Then cut the pipe where it exits the second cat on the right side. Remove the Y and everything behind it. Then replace with separate pipes welded to where the originals were removed. Both glass-packs fit where original muffler was located and both pipes exit behind right rear wheel. No "H" pipe.
Factory manifolds and cats are still intact. If your PC has sound, you can hear it for yourself: http://members.visualcities.com/NoMo...tive/packs.wav
