Question PCM Codes

I removed my PCM yesterday in order to ship it out for it's custom tune today.
I was wondering how many different codes Ford has already used on these trucks.

My truck is the 5.4L 3v, and it's PCM code is BME9. My build month was 10/03.

Anybody have a different code? The codes should evolve through production as they try to correct problems and make additional improvements.
Please also post engine type and build month.

In case you're not sure where the PCM is, I included the below picture taken from in front of the engine compartment. The PCM is circled in red. There is a sticker on the front of it that shows the code in bold print.

Thanks,
John

JohnAndDar:

Had you had your PCM reflashed to correct the outside temp reading errors. If so, did your dealership slap on a revised lable on the PCM - that being BEM9?

Screwdrive,

I haven't had my PCM reflashed. I believe the temp. issue and fix was identified before mine was built (at least the temp reading has been accurate).
I am curious whether those who have had reflashed done (for either the outside temp. reading problem or the check engine warnings) needed/had updated stickers added to their PCMS. Anyone?

Thanks,
John

I wil see mine tonight. I am back in the shop today because of the howl after they did the clutch pack.

I had asked that they do the reflash be cause of the fuel and the outside temp being off about 15 degrees. I will see if there is a new sticker on it.

How would I know if one is new or if they even did it.

My build date: 9/03

Hi YellowFX4Screw,

If they do a re-flash, it should be listed on your repair receipt. If they say they did, please ask them if they make a notation on the PCM. I would sustpect that even if they are supposed to (and I am not certain that they are always supposed to), that a lot of dealers don't bother, but I certainly may be wrong. I've just never had my PCM reflashed.
Even Mike Troyer told me that on the F150 Lariat Screw that they've tested their performance packages on came with a "BME8" sticker, but the PCM had already been updated to BME9, without any notation on the PCM.

Thanx for that info, John.

I will let you know tonight, what they have done.

Of course, Murphy's Law says that I will NOT get my truck until tomorrow because they were unable to get it finished; now that I have said I would tell you guys this tonight.

Well, nevermind, I'll let you know tomorrow. I was right. They have the rear end ripped apart and they said that they will need the truck over night. UNBELIEVEABLE!!!

Mine is the 5.4 3v built 9/03 and the sticker says BME8. I had it reflashed awhile back (03/01/04) and I'm guessing that they didn't put a new sticker on it as it looks original. All it says on my service ticket is reprogrammed PCM per SSM17261 if anyone can make something of that, but no flash code that I can find anywhere (BME?).

My F150 was built in Feb, and the PCM 221 code is listed as EAY2. Any idea if this is the most current flash?

Dusty,

I started this out of pure curiosity, but maybe we'll be able to find out based on other responses...interesting that yours doesn't follow the BME# pattern. I wonder if there is any significance in that...

JohnAndDar,

I agree, it would be very interesting to see what the latest PCM version is in trucks right out of the plant, not just what is reflashed at the dealer.

So far, it looks like EAY2 is the most current factory installed PCM, but perhaps someone else will post with a more current version.
