What goes wrong with transfer cases?

I have an '86 F-150 I use for the winter time, back-up vehicle, and just to tinker with. Well, the transfer case quit working. (New Process 108 I believe.) The truck still works in a "2 Low" mode, however, there is no power going to the front wheels. I am pretty sure it is not the hubs; any suggestions? Thanks.

On mine and several others that I know of the front and rear shift forks wear thin which in turn does not push the appropriate gear all the way in so that it is not engaged. They are about $25 each and a chain/seal kit is another $60. The transfer case is easy, the pain in the a$$ is getting it out and in.

Hey thanks! That gives me something to shoot for, helps out a bunch. It just didn't make any sense that it would 'halfway' work...

Where did you get your parts from? I checked a couple places, and they say they are unavailable.

Ford dealership, they had them in stock. The chain and rebuild kit I bought from a local shop that specializes in suspension, differentials, etc.
