fans/pullies with tuner
fans/pullies with tuner
Hey there how is everyone?? i havent been very vocal lately but i am gonna be here a little more now. Getting settled in to a new place so its feelin more like home now. Anyway down to business. I got a tuner last winter and am very pleased with it. Since then i have added gears, AF1 intake, and a magnaflow exhaust. And i know i am getting close to my limit with the "basic" programming in the tuner. I have had my eye on the fans on Mike's website and the pullies too. But i am just wondering if my "basic" programming in my tuner will support that much more. What i am shooting for with the pullies and fans is a little more pulling power. I may be buying a bigger boat soon so i just want to feel comfortable towing it. Also if anyone has the fans or pullies from Mike's website.... i'd like to hear the results. Thanks alot for any replies.
Silver&Blue,
E' Fans and pulleys will make a nice compliment to what you already have and what's recommended with the micro turner from Mike and his folks. You will be amazed by the increase in throttel response with the E' fans vs. the 11 lbs factory paper weight of a stock fan that you have. With the micro turner, I restored my factory programming and was really impressed with the pulleys and fans by themselves. After I upgrade the ignition systems and gears, I will be at my limit for mods with the micro turner. Unfortunately for me, the more power and improved performance I get, the more I want. Hence, I will probably be selling my mirco turner soon to do a stage four performance upgrade as shown on Mike's website. This requires the "street & strip" chip vs. the micro turner...will add @ 90-100 HP overall to the 4.6L. I suppose my wife thinks I am wasting money buying stuff for my truck and taking it off my truck, only to replace it with something else. Well, sometimes you don't know what you don't know until you try it. I enjoy my truck and the mods are a lot cheaper than a new truck.
What did the change in gears do for you? I am looking to go from 3.55 to 4.10s with 265/75 tires. I will probably change out the tires to 285/75s once I get some wear on them...current tire is still too new to get rid of.

Hi S&B,
Good to see you again, & hope you're getting settled into your new situation!
Yes, you can do the electric fans & underdrive pulleys and still use the tuning in the Micro Tuner, no problem.
There are a number of great aspects to those mods that aren't immediately apparent, for example, even though you're getting about 30 more peak HP to the rear wheels, you're going to use *less* fuel than before, as the motor was using more fuel to turn the fan & all the other accessories. So what that means is that for these 2 mods, meaning the electric fans & underdrive pulleys, we don't have to take them into consideration in terms of fuel delivery system capacity (injectors, fuel pumps, etc.), a very important aspect for many people - especially on the 4.2 V6's, whose 6 - #19 injectors are only good for about 250-260 HP SAE at the *flywheel* at absolute max duty cycle.
So the bottom line is there are no tuning changes needed, and you'll burn less fuel (all else being equal) than you did before, it's a real win-win situation when you reduce/eliminate parasitic losses like this.

I understand exactly what u mean...i hadnt thought about it that way. I will definitely be doing at least the pullies right away then. I cant wait....another new toy. CRAIN.....I have taller tires than stock i have 265/60/R18's so that really cut into the power on my truck with the factory 3.08 gears. When i went to the 4.10's i pretty much immediately installed my tuner so the gains i noticed were from both the mods. But the results were absolutely incredible. I went from doing a two gear downshift on a certain hill at interstate speed... to being able to gain slightly on the same hill in overdrive with the torque converter locked. That was very impressive to me. And the difference in pulling the boat OMG. That was one hell of a mod. But u have to remember i had really tall tires and weak gears so i went from mediocre drivetrain to hellashous (SP??) drivetrain. So if u go to the the 285's id say the 4.10's would be a good choice especially if u do any towing. JMC.... did u install the fans yourself?? If u did how was the wiring up of the fans??? was it fairly easy?? That is about the only questions i have about them. I cant wait to get them. It may be a little b4 i do but i definitley will. Thanks for all the replies.
S&B,
The fan install was easy. Mikes instructions are like the Dummy books. E-fans install for dummies.
I rapped my wires in the conveluted tubing for a factory look.
