Symptoms of rear end posi problems

I've never had mine changed out and I'm curious what kind of problems would occur if your posi was to go bad.

Last night I was driving home and my truck just ate it and I'm not sure what the hell happened, which is just another kick in the ***. Its like my trans was slipping out of gear and it would come and go as I was driving, which I have a really hard time beleiving that my factory tech tranny could possibly be toasted after only 4,000 miles and 2 passes down the track. I'm thinking maybe its the converter not locking up, maybe a problem with my chip or somthing??? I got allot of idea's rolling around in my head and when I get home I'm going to start trying to figure this out.

Anyone got any idea's???

Rear diff symptoms are a one tire fire, chatter around slow speed turns. Your symptoms are tranny related.

I do get the chatter around the turns too, so looks like I'll be doing both the posi and the tranny!

The diff in my old Stang was making some chatter around sharp turns (at 55k miles, so I changed the fluid to synthetic. Quieted it down a lot.

If you rear end ever gets submerged in water (driving through a deep puddle or something), I've heard that can contaminate the fluid and make it burn up. The fluid in my car was all black when I changed it.

Anyway, sounds like your problem is tranny related, as Silver-Bolt said. It isn't a miss in the engine, because of a plug backing itself out is it???

I don't know man, I just have the bad luck with trannies.

On the bright side I know I can pull this pig in a couple hours with all my experience, HAHAHAHAHH!!!

I'm just going to pull the pump out and see whats going on and if the tranny clutchs look bad I might as well replace them while I got the pig out you know. Gregs got allot of updated parts by now I'm sure too.

I just have a hard time beleiving that I trashed another tranny. I've slowed down allot and I don't drive that bad anymore so I'm think its just a defective part or somthing you know. Sal seems to think its the pump so that wouldn explain allot.

We'll see I guess.

So this will be my 5th tranny so far in 43,000 miles! Thats got to be some type of record for a daily driver truck, HAHAHAHAHA.

When your posi unit freaks out or clunks going around turns
ask an old timer in a speed shop for Whale Oil
