F150online Ford Truck News --- FORD FORTIFIES TRUCK LEADERSHIP WITH MORE CAPABLE F-150 AND NEW, LOWER PRICED SUPER DUTY
FORD FORTIFIES TRUCK LEADERSHIP WITH MORE CAPABLE F-150 AND NEW, LOWER PRICED SUPER DUTY

  • Ford secures 30th consecutive year of full-size pickup truck leadership and announces product and pricing actions to remain America’s truck leader.
  • New marketing campaign kicks off today, including special F-150 lease offers, celebrating 30-year accomplishment.
  • Ford F-Series sales in 2006 were 796,039 – almost 160,000 more trucks than the second place truck, the Chevrolet Silverado.
  • The new 2008 Ford Super Duty, the most capable pickup truck ever, is now in production and will launch in the first quarter with lower introductory prices.
  • The 2007 Ford F-150 has now been engineered to tow even heavier loads – up to 11,000 pounds – more than any other half-ton pickup.

DEARBORN, Mich., Jan. 4, 2007 – The Ford F-Series has now achieved 30 consecutive years as the best-selling pickup truck and the company is announcing new product actions to fortify its leadership – including increased towing capacity for the Ford F-150, lower sticker prices for the new 2008 Ford Super Duty and a celebratory marketing campaign that will include special lease offers on the 2007 F-150.

“Built Ford Tough is a promise we make to our customers to make the most capable, innovative trucks on the market to help them get the job done,” says Cisco Codina, Ford group vice president, Marketing, Sales and Service. “Ford has the products today and is making the investments for tomorrow to remain America’s leader in full-size pickups.”

Ford F-150 Out-Tows All Light Duty Pickups

The Ford F-150 enters 2007 with a new level of capability. It already had best-in-class payload capacity of 3,050 pounds and now F-150 has been engineered for best-in-class towing capacity of 11,000 pounds.

“We constantly work to improve the F-150, especially its capability because that’s what customers expect from us,” says Matt O’Leary, Ford F-150 chief engineer. “Its fully boxed frame – the backbone of the F-150 – makes it tough enough to stand up to the most punishing job.”

Also new for the 2007 model year, Ford has added to an unmatched lineup of more than 60 unique F-Series offerings with a new FX2 Sport Package and Harley-Davidson SuperCrew.

The 2007 F-150 also offers a long list of new options, features and equipment, including a standard tire pressure monitoring system and auxiliary audio input jack as well as an optional in-dash navigation system.

2008 Ford Super Duty: Lower Prices for the Most Capable Pickup Truck Ever

The new 2008 Super Duty, which accounts for about 40 percent of its F-Series sales, will redefine the heavy-duty truck market again. It features bold new exterior styling and a new interior that sets a new standard for comfort, refinement and quality. Properly equipped, it has the ability to tow more than 24,000 pounds – over 7,000 pounds more than its closest competitor – and haul three tons – over 600 pounds more than its closest competitor.

The new truck also offers innovative new features, such as:

All-new F-450 pickup: Riding on its own unique chassis, the F-450 pickup combines the right axle, powertrain and suspension to pull the heaviest trailer with confidence and control. Only Ford offers a Class IV pickup.

All-new 6.4-liter Power Stroke™ Diesel Engine: This available engine, powered by sequential turbochargers, produces 350 horsepower and 650 foot-pounds of torque while delivering a sharp decrease in particulates and emissions.

TailGate Step: An exclusive feature makes it easy to step up into or down out of the bed to load or unload cargo and is fully integrated into the tailgate and virtually invisible when not in use.

Powerscope Mirrors: The industry’s first power folding and telescoping trailer tow mirrors, which offer drivers the convenience of adjusting mirrors from the cab.

Even with so many improvements, Ford is lowering Super Duty’s base manufacturer's suggested retail prices (MSRPs) while adding more standard content to provide more value to truck customers.

The base MSRPs (including destination and delivery) for the 2008 F-250 Super Duty range from $23,305 for a Regular Cab XL 4x2 model to $38,425 for a top of the line F-250 Crew Cab Lariat 4x4. The same configurations for the 2007 model year were priced at $23,455 and $38,670, respectively.

The improved customer value is well illustrated by the 2008 F-250 Crew Cab Lariat 4x4, which is priced $235 lower than the same 2007 model, but has $545 worth of new standard equipment. The new standard equipment includes: trailer hitch, 18-in. versus 17-in. wheels, auxiliary audio input jack, rear seat ducts, SecuriLock®, and dual zone electronic automatic temperature control.

Among the key options available for the 2008 F-Series Super Duty:

  • 6.4-liter Power Stroke diesel: $6,895
  • DVD Navigation radio: $1,875
  • Rear-seat DVD entertainment system: $1,315
  • Sirius satellite radio: $200
  • Stowable bed extender: $250
  • Powerscope trailer-tow mirrors: $370
  • Rapid-heat supplemental cab heater: $250
  • TailGate Step: $375

Ford Celebrates Leadership

Since its debut in 1948, Ford has sold more than 32 million F-Series trucks around the world. Today, there are more F-Series pickups on the road with 250,000 miles than any other brand. It has also been the best-selling truck in America for 30 consecutive years and the best-selling vehicle for 25 years in a row.

To celebrate this success, Ford will introduce two new television ads that will begin airing during the college football Bowl Championship Series and National Football League championship playoffs. The first ad, named “Cake,” features a new 2007 F-150 bounding up a dirt road before encountering a giant cake with the number “30” frosted on it.  The truck bursts through the cake, celebrating the sales accomplishment while demonstrating that Ford plans to continue its truck sales leadership by offering unmatched capability and durability.

In the second ad, named “Barn,” Ford’s achievement is not celebrated with fireworks and party hats, but rather with the satisfaction of a job well done. The ad shows a pair of hard working truck owners welding in a dark barn and then loading their job into their Ford truck and moving out of the barn as the sun comes up.

They will be supported by three print ads placed in nearly 100 major daily newspapers across the country beginning Jan. 5.

Regionally the ads will detail very attractive lease offers, including:

  • 2007 F-150 SuperCab XLT -- $249 a month for a 36-month Red Carpet Lease with $1,999 due at signing
  • 2007 F-150 Super Crew XLT -- $299 a month for a 24-month Red Carpet Lease with $1,999 due at signing
  • Alternatively, customers can opt for 2.9% for 60 months or $3,000 customer cash.
