The Ford F-150 may be America’s best-selling passenger vehicle, but there are 16 states (and one federal district) where other makes and models reign supreme on the sales charts. It’s no surprise the popular Toyota Camry would sit atop some individual state rankings: in this case, it’s currently the most popular new car in Florida and Maryland. The Honda Accord, another darling of the U.S. automotive popularity contest, is the top-selling car in New York, New Jersey, Virginia and Rhode Island.

Here in California, the vehicle rolling off new-car lots most frequently is also a Honda, but it is the Accord’s little brother: the Civic. The Toyota Corolla, one of the Honda Civic’s biggest competitors, tops the sales charts in Washington D.C.

Chevrolet beat the Ford F-150 with its top-selling Silverado in Maine and Indiana, while the Silverado’s twin, the GMC Sierra, is the most popular new vehicle in Vermont.

The big surprise in this statistical breakdown came from Hawaii: the Toyota Tacoma is that state’s best-selling vehicle.
