2016 Ford F-150 2.7-liter EcoBoost® V6 wins PickupTrucks.com competition

The 2.7L EcoBoost V6 in the 2015 and later Ford F-150 is a bit of a special engine. It’s one of those rare power plants that feels more powerful than it is, genuinely fun to drive, and is more than capable of handling most tasks. It was also designed to be fuel efficient. But there are a lot of fuel efficient pickup trucks out there these days, but in a recent PickupTrucks.com comparison, the F-150 took home the crown.

Ford, Ram Trucks, and General Motors all are approaching the fuel economy question with a variety of solutions. For Ford, that means a line of EcoBoost V6s. For General Motors, it’s refining the V8 process. Finally, for Ram, it’s introducing a diesel engine into the mix. Each method has its pros and cons, and even though they are fundamentally different in design, customers are going to compare the results.

We were able to beat the EPA’s fuel economy numbers when we had one in for review last year, but we all know that once you start using the performance of an engine, you lose fuel economy. PickupTrucks.com compared each vehicle objectively, and assigned it points in key categories. In the end, the Ford came out on top.
