Boosting Ahead: F-150 EcoBoost Hits 200,000 Sales
A lot of people were skeptical when Ford announced the EcoBoost F-150. “There was no way that a complicated twin-turbo V6 could match the output and reliability of an old-school, long stroke V8,” or so the skeptics lamented. Now though, after Ford has sold it’s 200,000th ecoboost, it seems like they might’ve have found an audience.

In fact, they’re selling more EcoBoost trucks than V8s. A solid 43 percent of trucks sold are EcoBoost models, and an additional 11 percent are just base level 3.7 liter naturally aspirated V6s.

There are likely a couple reasons for this. The EcoBoost is likely a better fit for most people in the market for buying an F-150 in the first place. Likely, the amount of torque it makes is sufficient for people carrying moderate to light loads. For those who regularly carry heavier things and need more power, there’s a good chance that they’d just move up to an F250. They’d probably be better served by a work dedicated large truck anyway.

All-in-all it’s been a big success for Ford. What would be cool would a return of the SVT lighting in EcoBoost guise to complement the Raptor. I mean, think about it. Twin-turbo v8 super truck? Sign us up.
