This 1979 F-150 Off-Roader Will Eat Your New Truck for Lunch

I off-road regularly, and considering I review cars for a living, 90% of the time it’s done with brand new trucks and SUVs. That being said, there’s nothing cooler than seeing a beefy and well-equipped older truck on the trails, specially when it’s kicking butt and leaving the newer sheet metal behind.

Take for example this 1979 Ford F-150, it belongs to hardcore off-roader Craig Montague, and Craig came into this truck truck in the same way all of us would love to do so—for free.

When one of Craig’s friends decided to move and not bother with transporting a truck, he decided to give it away for free, and after a quick weekend trip to the country, Craig was convinced this was the project truck he’d been waiting for a very long time.

Even though this F-150 has already been rolled-over on the trail, which is why it now features a 1974-style body, and the 351 ci V8 was swapped for a 400 block which will one day end up as a 444 Stroker.

When it comes to going over large, everything, the F-150 does just fine thanks to a “Wild Horses” rock crawling kit, ARB rear lockers, and an original 1980’s Warn winch just in case the going gets rough.

Kudos to Craig for bringing this old Ford truck back to life, and giving it a new purpose out on the trails!
